What is OEKO-TEX certification and why does it matter?

OEKO-TEX is an independent certification system for textiles and textile production. It tests fabrics, inks, and accessories for harmful substances and certifies that they meet strict human-ecological safety standards. For anyone ordering custom printed fabric — especially for childrenswear, babywear, or skin-contact garments — OEKO-TEX certification is a meaningful quality and safety signal.

OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100

OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 is the most widely recognized certification in the system. A product carrying this label has been tested for over 100 harmful substances, including pesticide residues, heavy metals, formaldehyde, allergenic dyes, and pH levels. Tests are conducted by independent OEKO-TEX member institutes.

Products are certified in four product classes based on the intended use and level of skin contact:

  • Class I — for babies and toddlers up to 36 months (most stringent requirements)
  • Class II — for items with direct skin contact (underwear, t-shirts, bedding)
  • Class III — for items without direct skin contact (outerwear, lining fabrics)
  • Class IV — for decoration materials (curtains, table covers, upholstery)

What Muzefab uses

The inks, pretreatment, and softener used in our natural fabric printing process are certified to OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100, Classes I and II — the two most stringent categories. This means our printed fabrics are tested safe for direct skin contact and suitable for babywear and children's products.

Our printing process also uses GOTS 7.0 certified consumables. GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) is a separate certification focused on the entire organic textile supply chain, covering both ecological and social criteria.

Why this matters for your brand

If you're producing items for babies or children, you may be legally or commercially required to demonstrate material safety. OEKO-TEX certification provides documented third-party proof. For fashion brands and POD sellers targeting EU or US markets, being able to reference OEKO-TEX certification in your product descriptions is a genuine competitive differentiator.
